Poetry

1

She is pure white scalloped bordering,

the click of one inch heels,

blackberries bitter, crushed by claws grasping with too much pressure.

She is the bruised sky

heavy with unshed tears,

she is the veins of leaves that look like slender fingers outstretched.

She is the echo you hear

when you drop a coin down the deepest well,

she is the shadow cast

by thin parchment.

She has no blemishes,

only beauty marks or freckled skin,

there are no scars, only nonbelievers

and the tricks of lighting.

2

Like iridescent pearls

sitting on the dresser.

Like the dancing shoes

wasting away in a shoebox.

Life as a beautiful little fool,

imprisoned behind breezy windows.

Whispering gayly, like soft rain

beating on your door.

Let me in.

Rebekah Grafton, Annie Graves, Clare Otting, and Nicole Reisert. 2015.
